Video: Groundswell on Will it Blend

When Josh and Charlene (I affectionately call them ‘Jarlene’) asked me to donate some of my schwag, I had no idea my Flip Camera given to me from MySpace was going to be ground into a pile of dust (he now owes me a new one).

Watch this campy video or read the behind the scenes info of colleague Josh Bernoff (sporting the latest in traffic safety ties), as he gets his grind on.

  1. Hi Jeremiah,

This video is very entertaining and gives an interesting perspective on social technologies, but I agree with what Peter Kim and some others said in the comments of the Groundswell blog – it would have been even better if they also blended the book… and, in my opinion, Josh’s tie 😉

  2. Sorry, but this was pretty bad. Probably the worst ‘Will it Blend?’ to date. When Seth Godin did ‘Meatball Sundae’, it was funny and original. Nice promotion of a great book, and the title actually made sense when you think of the product. This was nothing more than a bunch of buzzwords and bad product placements. Try harder next time, Jarlene!

  3. If I remember well, blendding books does not show really well. May be the reason.

The show itself isn’t good. No fun, no joke, and we’ve already seen electronic stuff be blended. And btw, what’s with that tie of Josh?! should be blending ties and speak about being human … may have been better. But it’s easier said.

  4. I think the key takeaway from Josh is to “choose your technologies” carefully, lest your strategy end up in a pile of dust. Of course, it’s important to start with your business strategy (including objectives) first, and then choose your technology.

And I agree with others commenting here: Josh’s tie should have gone into the blender, too.

  5. Josh always wears that neon green tie! He was wearing it when I interviewed him and charlene.

Jeremiah, I would demand a new flip video from Josh. I never go anywhere without mine these days.

    Cheers!

  6. Wow — that’s the wildest “mashup” that i’ve ever seen!

i do agree it would’ve been great to blend the book (and Josh’s tie — but not with him wearing it)!

  7. Jeez, guys. I was just tryin’ to have a little fun.

I’d love to blend the tie, but cloth doesn’t do well in a blender. And Rodney, I have only worn that tie twice — once at our Forum, and once in this video. Just so happens it’s when you see me!

I thought blending the book would be boring.

As Bryan saw, I was trying to make a point. (And I went all the way to Utah to make it.) If it’s not interesting, the video won’t spread, but if it’s not saying something worthwhile, spreading it won’t help me. With about 2000 views between YouTube and Revver, we’re not setting any records on spreading the video, but it’s not bad.

If I had it to do over again I would enlist the community to write the script (on a wiki) before I went to Utah.

I should have made more jokes, I’m moderately good at that 😉

Anyway, at least I had fun doing it!

  8. hey, i saw this by chance, and for me this video seemed from another world – no judging involved here. where i live and work (varanasi, india) we struggle to get money for the basic things (like building a proper bathroom for the kids and enabling them to have at least one computer in their school), and just imagening that somebody really could throw these things to see if they are blending? incredible 🙂
