People on the Move in the Social Media Industry: April 23, 2009

onthemove

Despite there being many layoffs in the startup space. I’ve started this post series (see archives) to recognize and congratulate folks who get promoted, move, or accept new exciting positions. Please help me congratulate the following folks:

  • Get Satisfaction gets new CEO, Wendy Lea who has a former background in enterprise software. Co-founder Thor steps down although remains active in CTO role, this is common for companies who are undergoing growth.
  • Tac Anderson leaves HP social media efforts and joins Waggener Edstrom to focus on Studio D (digital), having gotten to know Tac, this is a big win for WE.
  • Neighborhood America announces that Tom Edwards has joined the company’s executive team as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, joining from Telligent
  • Jamie Beckland, who began at White Horse as a project manager in September 2008, has been promoted and has accepted the position of Emerging Media Specialist
  • David Armano leaves Critical Mass to join Dachis Corporation to focus on social business design. Congrats.

  • How to connect with others (or get a job):
Several people have been hired because of this blog post series, here’s how:

    Submit an announcement
If you know folks that are moving up in the social media industry, leave a comment below, or if you’re feeling shy (it’s cool to self-nominate) send me an email. Please include a link to your announcement, and ensure you’re really living and breathing in the social media world –this is not a small aspect of your role.

If you’re seeking candidates in the social media industry, many of them are within arms reach, feel free to leave a link to a job description (but not the whole job description, or I’ll delete it)

I’m seeking folks that are related to full time hands on social media strategy and community managers, to be on this list, so let me know if you see these folks, and please submit them –try to include links to announcements on blogs or on the wire. Also, I probably will not include executive management changes on this list at social media companies, as the list would go on and on, but you can feel free to express yourself in the comments!

    1. Hey Jeremiah, just thought I’d let you know that my brief stay in Houston is over and that I’m back in LA with a new amazing job.

I came on board at Roll International two weeks ago working out of its in-house advertising agency Fire Station Agency as the company’s New Media Director. We work with Teleflora, FIJI Water, POM Wonderful & PFI Brands.

When you’re next in LA, let’s meet up. @clintschaff (Twitter/Skype/AIM/Gtalk/LinkedIn)

    2. Hi Jeremiah!

Things are starting to pick up at Connected Social Media. Personally, I think it’s a good sign for the economy overall, but be that as it may, we’ve got work coming in and I now find myself here on the *hiring* side of things (a much better place:)

Anyway, if anyone is interested, we’re hiring, more urgently with the production part of social media. All the listings can be found at:

    3. In my neck of the woods (public sector in Vancouver, BC), I’m starting to see social media slowly being worked into the daily work of web communications professionals both on the technical development end of the spectrum as well as on the communications/marketing end. Many of us tend to work as generalists and the line between “social media” and “the web” is getting very blurred – in a good way!

    4. Hi Jeremiah,
Just wanted to share a congratz shoutout to John Yamasaki @jyamasaki who recently joined Seesmic team as a Community Evangelist. Congratz Yama!

    5. Matt Miller has been named the Social Media Manager for Mpix.com, a division of Miller’s, Inc.

Miller’s is the largest print lab in the United States.

    6. Hey Jeremiah,

Very excited to learn of my promotion today to Director of Social Media for Salem Web Network.

Your insight into our world is invaluable. Thank you for all you do!

    7. I just transitioned from a job as web content editor to social media manager at Fresno Pacific University, a local independent university. I’m loving it!

    8. Hey, I just got back into the world of techonolgy and communications. I moved from being a behavioral therapist for children with autism to the Technology-Bases Communications Coordinator here at Workforce Development! No link to show off my announcement but we all started somewhere. I will be taking my personal blog off life support here shortly and the company one will be launching sometime soon I hope. Keep up the good work everyone!

    9. Hi Jeremiah,

Stephanie Fuerniss is the new (May ’09) managing editor of online communities for Next Generation Learning at Capella University (a fully online university).

Your posts on social media and online communities are invaluable! I follow your blog and your Twitter page. Thanks!!!

      Steph

    10. Congrats to everyone here who got promoted!

It’s great to see that more businesses are embracing social media.
Just finished an article about how Dell made $3M through its tweets 😉

    11. In addition to establishing start up operations and complimentary social media efforts for three branded start ups – a cosmetic line (http://FerbsCosmetics.com), a web development company (http://FaceySpacey.com) an online lottery group website (http://LottoGopher.com – coming soon!), I have most recently been working with matrixx to develop engaging interactive and social media marketing campaigns.

As the Lead Interactive Producer for matrixx. Our most recent projects include campaigns for Johnsonville (http://CreateYourOwnVille.com), Schlotzsky’s (htp://www.BigLeagueClubz.com) and Dippin’ Dots Facebook Fan Page – the 3rd largest restaurant fan page on Facebook (http://bit.ly/DippinDotsFacebook).

I love conversations and really digg producing social media marketing campaigns. If I can ever help please let me know. 🙂
