People on the Move in the Social Media Industry: Feb 12, 2009

I haven’t published an “on the move in the social media space” in a while, in fact nearly 2 months. Why? Things really slowed down, and I received far less submissions, the recession is taking it’s toll.

Despite there being many layoffs in the startup space. I’ve started this post series (see archives) to recognize and congratulate folks who get promoted, move, or accept new exciting positions. Please help me congratulate the following folks:

  • Keith Burtis is new Community Manager for Best Buy Remix. you can find him as @keithburtis on Twitter, and his web site is at
  • Amber Naslund is Radian6’s new Director of Community, read her thoughts here.
  • Erik Langner, expresses his joy on Twitter and says: “Excited about starting my new gig as Customer Success Director at Lithium this week!”
  • Ed Lee is now the managing director and online and social media consultancy com.motion in Toronto, congrats!

    1. Thanks Jeremiah for covering Amber’s move to Radian6 as our new Director of Community. We’re very happy to have her on the team. And congrats as well to Keith, Erik and Ed on their new roles.

    2. Hey Jeremiah,

A few weeks ago I was moved into a full time role as a Social Media Strategist for Vignette.

I will drive the use of social networking applications to enhance customer communications, foster company-oriented dialogue and further Vignette™s presence in the online community.

Here is an interview I did with @CMSwire if you are interested in learning more about the role @vignettecorp.

      Thanks, Dirk

    3. Hi, Jeremiah. I started at the first of the year as social media manager for SAS, the business analytics software company. My job is devoted full time to social media and primarily inward-focused on developing our strategy but also focused outwardly, helping departments at SAS use social media for outreach. I just launched my external blog at ttp:// Here™s my LinkedIn profile:

      I’m on Twitter as @DavidBThomas.

      Best regards,

    4. Hi Jeremiah,

Thanks for mentioning my new gig at Radian6. It’s been a great adventure so far and I’m really enjoying it.

On the one hand, it’s really heartbreaking to see so much strife in the employment world in general right now, but I’m still optimistic that the world of social media holds promise for new hybrid disciplines and the evolution of “traditional” roles. I’m hopeful that means that economic recovery will also usher in more and different opportunities because of this space.

      Thanks again and cheers,

    5. Your headline says Feb. 12, 2000, not 2009. I thought this was going to be a post on “Where are they now, nine years later”. I wasn’t thinking about social media in 2000.

    6. Hi Jeremiah:

I just started my new position as Director of Mentalism for AutoImaginary

Wait. No. I got laid off and I’m lounging about sucking the teat of the welfare state.

In my defense, I’ve never had such an agreeable work environment.

    7. Jeremiah,
Thanks for the mention. I am really excited about being here. It™s great to be engaged in helping customers build successful communities.
