I’ve done a lot of other lists, for a variety of industries, verticals, age groups, but need to spend some time on women. Agencies and brands get to showcase their work (I’ve got great SEO in front of a social media audience) and it’s easy for women to find communities that are interesting to them. Lastly, to be honest, I don’t know that much about the women social space so I need to be educated, help me!
If you do submit, please leave a comment with a URL and a brief description. See my other industry indexes for a variety of other social media efforts tagged industry index.

Networks and Communities
Jezebel.com
kirtsy.com
wowowow.com
Both Huggies and Pampers (fairly recently launched Pampers Village) nurture discussion communities for their brand consumers.
Definitely need to add these to your networks:
MomBloggersClub: A community directed at mommy bloggers. Spinoffs include Gamer Moms and Pregnant Moms.
TwitterMoms.com: A growing-like-wildfire community for digital moms who blog and tweet.
BabyCenter is also big in this space. There are dozens more!
Imnotobsessed.com
http://www.iknowpolitics.org – A community for women who either are or wish to become involved in politics around the world. The site is run by a group within the United Nations.
FYI I happen to have the distinct pleasure of helping them redesign the site from its current form into something that will be more dynamic and reflective of this incredibly passionate community.
http://socialnetworkingforbusinesswomen.com/ – Social Networking for Business Women. Great twitter event #sn4bw.
I have two to add under network and communities:
http://www.fem2pt0.com — society’s issues+ women’s voices (although I doubt they would say they are only for women)
http://www.myworkbutterfly.com — niche social networking site & job board that connects savvy moms by sharing advice, support & ultimately, solutions.
Full disclosure: I’m not an active participant in either. I do try to attend the twittercasts at Fem2pt0 but Sunday nights are crazy, getting set for the week. myworkbutterfly just hasn’t resonated with me.
Hi Jeremiah,
I just tweeted this but in case you missed it you should look at GeekGirlCamp, it has tracks on social networking. In fact a few of the women from Mzinga will be speaking at their two events within the next week!

They are also on Twitter @geekgirlcamp

@jowyang…
You should add Corepower Yoga:
http://www.corepoweryoga.com/
They have studios in a limited number of cities; however, they DO offer yoga ONLINE, for those who work on the road, & also, offer online teacher training, & other benefits to webhounds.
Very worth the investment of one’s time… @lisasepiphany
http://www.momslikeme.com is a collection of 80 interconnected local sites across the United States, focusing on mothers, families, children and local issues in each area.
Don’t forget She’s Geeky (http://shesgeeky.org)! It’s an ongoing series of unconferences, but female-focused, and a change of pace from all the fashion, beauty, dating & mommy stuff.
Yahoo! has a women’s property, Shine (shine.yahoo.com). 🙂
You should add a category for Games! Here’s one:
http://apps.facebook.com/photograb
It’s photo-sharing meets braingames: you “play” your friends’ photos to exercise your visual brain! And if you’re feeling creative, you can make puzzle games from your digital photos.
Thanks, I just remembered to add suicide girls too!
I’ll add all these in during the weekend, keep em coming.
Women and fashion go hand in hand. There are also many social networks anchored around women and fashion. ClosetCouture.com (http://www.closetcouture.com/) is the place for the fashion minded and mostly attracts female users.
She-conomy.com is a guy’s guide to marketing to marketing to women and although it is directed at men, I have many female followers.
A great site that has a very specific target audience is savvyauntie.com

Hey Jeremiah,
Girls in Tech is becoming an incredibly important networking force in the social media world… In fact, you’d be a great candidate for a panel or event.
Check ’em out:

We ran a HUGE series on ShapingYouth.org for “all things girl” In fact, Mobile Youth picked us for their ‘top 20 youth marketing blogs’ using our wrap up post/link list about ’empowering girls rather than consuming them’ here:

(We cover media and marketing’s impact on kids of BOTH genders, but with an all-female nonprofit board, sometimes our coverage veers accordingly. 😉

How about Girl Geek Dinners? http://girlgeekdinners.com/ – they are popping up all over the world. The events are aimed at providing a welcoming atmosphere and a platform for learning in an informal environment.
As usual, Jeremiah, you are on the leading edge. Women are where it’s at, online. I talk about this every day on Lip-sticking, which has become a pretty popular place for women on the net: http://www.lipsticking.com . Today, for instance, your readers might like my post on International Women’s Day – which is tomorrow.

Excellent resources! I also enjoy http://www.lipsticking.com as well.

Thanks for all the submissions, it will take me some time to update any comments from this point on, so thanks for your patience
This is great, Jeremiah. And thanks to sheconomy and @y2vonne for their love and support for SavvyAuntie.com. Under “resources” I’d like to add @tobydiva and @y2vonne’s http://www.lipsticking.com and Michele Miller’s Wonderbranding: http://michelemiller.blogs.com/ Andrea Learned http://learnedonwomen.com/ is also good. I went to all these sources before launching my site for data, and all the women behind them were helpful. Recently, I found Sheconomy, which is also an amazing resource for me.
Thanks for your kind words Melanie. Jeremiah you might be interested in the list of 31 women social networking communities I created. The focus was on non mom sites. http://bit.ly/9RxIq If you stop by be sure to check the comments some additional sites listed.
Hey Jeremiah,
While they are not available for all to see (since they are invitation only private communities) I’d love for our clients Mattel and Meredith Corp to get props for their great work engaging women in online communities as brand advisors. They are doing an incredible job of making these awesome women a central part of their marketing and innovation initiatives and really listening to what they have to say.
As you know, Mattel won the Forrester Groundswell Award for their moms community and Meredith has also recieved numerous accolades (and real business results!) for their “Real Women Talking” community of amazing women that help them on a multitude of ongoing projects.

Thanks for collecting all this great info!
I’d like to suggest http://www.snowmamas.com – it’s a site that we’ve put together here at Park City Mountain Resort as a community for moms to share tips and information on how to plan and take winter vacations with their families.
Thanks for the list!
Damsels in Success http://www.damselsinsuccess.com/blogs/default.aspx
Thank you very much for creating the list. Helpful and what we were looking for after our meeting with you last week. Will have our brand teams submit more to you as they run across them or as we create social media marketing efforts focused on women.
Thanks for this excellent overview. Please check out Women in Ag, a long-standing network for women involved in agriculture. Features include a forum, micosite, newsletter, and Facebook page: http://www.womeninag.org
Please check out Knowledge Crush http://www.knowledgecrush.com/
And how about skirt! magazine? It’s a great hub for women-centric conversation.

http://www.mumsnet.com

I’ve got to thank the community for all their entries too! Next, we should segment this list, and prioritize! I’m not sure if I’ll have time, but I’m glad it’s a good start.
Really appreciate you reaching to me again. Let me know how I can help you again.
Two more communities primarily aimed at women: The Viva Diva Cafe (Kimberly-Clark’s Viva Towels – http://vivadivacafe.com) and Scott Common Sense Community (K-C’s Scott Towels – http://www.scottcommonsense.com).

Agriculture Online (the Web site of Successful Farming magazine) has a special section, Women in Ag (http://www.agriculture.com/womeninag). In addition to news and features for women on the farm, the site offers a monthly e-mail newsletter, an active discussion group, and a Facebook group.
Thanks for the list of fantastic resources!
I hate Twitter Moms. Mainly because they call themselves The Influential Moms Network. They affected one ad campaign, which isn’t that hard to do, actually. Reminds me of baby stroller nazis in Park Slope, women who act like they own the sidewalks. The sense of exaggerated entitlement is outrageous.
I would like to recommend my site for the list, http://www.shementor.com. SheMentor is a site that provides articles and blog content with advice for women in management on navigating tricky corporate landscapes and escaping the “glass ceiling” syndrome.
Grandparents.com is the place for today™s new generation of active, involved grandparents to find everything they need to get more fun, more smiles, and more memories out of the time they spend with their grandchildren. More GrandMOTHERS here than Grandfathers, altho all are welcome.
http://www.referquest.com/frontend.php/
Cool new referral website started by a mother of two children under two.
Using ReferQuest.com you can:
-offer a reward to get what you need
-help out friends (and earn a little extra cash) by recommending people, services and stuff you know about.
Another campaign directed at women in social media was the hp vivienne tam mini 1000 – where a group of female bloggers were invited to go to NYC and meet Vivienne Tam. There is also the example of Walmart’s 11 Moms.
Other women’s communities I know of are momdot.com and also pnn.com.
Circle of Moms is a social networking community that helps moms support one another. It has incredible utility: with 2+ million members, it’s quickly become the go-to parenting resource for women. The prevailing tone is warm and helpful, and there are thousands of groups focused on everything from greening your home to preparing a child for surgery.
Facebookster focuses on strategic Facebook application development. At Facebookster, we have professional Facebook application developers who are well trained and well equipped with all the skills and technical requirements for a perfect Facebook application.
how do you assess ning as part of this? you type “ning” and “mom” or “mother” into google and you get a fair few. Probably lots of small groups, but I have to admit i don’t really have my head wrapped around ning yet, not being a current user. their growth numbers certainly are impressive, even when you scale it back to the 5-6MM active monthly uniques quoted in the read/write web piece recently.
Social Network for women just launched recently. For women to connect with other women for friendship, find out about events, activities and hot deals in their city.
Not sure if I missed it mentioned, but http://www.vibrantnation.com is a socnet focused on boomer women. Has gotten off the ground rather well lately. Figured I’d make sure you’d seen them.
Thanks for another great resource. Hit upon this a little late in the game, but was searching for some good case study examples for a presentation. Great work as usual.
My company recently launched two social networks for women:
Suitespot (http://the-suitespot.com) – an online community for professional women
The Cloud (http://cloudwomen.com) – a social network for Christian women
Thanks for this list. A great idea!

I’d like to add Divine.ca to the mix and to put a bit of Canadiana on this list eh?
Divine.ca has over 500,000 Canadian women (French and English) visiting the site each month who come to us as a trusted resource for information on health and wellness, career, fashion, beauty , entertainment and relationships.
These gals also are active members of idivine.ca – the social network we’ve introduced to keep the conversations going and allow a space to sharing.

JaneNation.com–an opinion, information and idea community for women on a mission to change the marketplace. We exist because 91% of women still report being misunderstood by brands despite the fact we make 85% of purchases to the tune of $5 Trillion. Started as a result of “The Connected Agency” report by Forrester and my own personal passion to make the marketplace more reflective of and responsive to women.
