Despite a downturn in the economy, we continue to recognize those moving in the social media space. I’ve started this post series (see archives) to both track and congratulate folks who get promoted, move, or accept new exciting positions. Please help me congratulate the following folks:
- Barry Judge, Best Buy’s social savvy CMO has been promoted to a global role over marketing, expanding his role from North America Marketing. I enjoyed lunch with Barry recently.
- Stacy E. Lukasavitz becomes the Interactive Marketing Coordinator with the Detroit Regional Chamber
- Online community expert Dawn Foster joins Olliance Group as Senior Executive and Practice Manager of a new Online Community PracticeJacob Morgan(@jacobm) started a social media consultancy Mighty Mouth Media with 2 partners Connie Chan (@connieincalgary) and Roger Kondrat (@roger).Six Apart’s David Recordon joins Facebook as Director of Corporate Development, which suggests that Facebook will continue to open up.
- Fleishman-Hillard hired Jessica Smith as a VP in its Sacramento office, who will help build out the agency’s digital strategy on the West Coast, as well as be an agency resource nationwide. She will also support the firm’s FH Moms practice, which launched earlier this year.
- Michael Rubin joins Empower MediaMarketing of Cincinnati, OH as the Social Marketing Manager.
- Dan Thornton Joins Absolute Radio as the Digital Marketing Manager to further drive our successful community strategy and website.
- Deborah Schultz, Ray Wang, and myself join Charlene Li at the Altimeter Group. It tickles me to self-submit my own move.

Jeremiah,
Thanks for including me in your on the move post! I’m really looking forward to challenge of building the new online community practice for Olliance.
Thanks, Jeremiah, for including me! Unfortunately, I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to blog since!
I’m a wanna-be Jeremiah Owyang. I just started as NetBiz.com’s head of social media in July. It’s my first corporate gig.
Hey Jeremiah – one for your next update – Simon Collister, formerly Head of Digital at Weber Shandwick has joined We Are Social to head up our public sector and not-for-profit work:

Hi, and thanks for including me – I’d meant to let you know about the move for a while!
Funny to see Robin mention Simon Collister’s new role, as we often share the commute to work!
Robin thanks for the submission, I’ll fold that into the next update
Jeremiah, I don’t have a job submission, rather I just wanted to congratulate you on the move over to Altimeter. Looks like a lot of fun ahead…
Jeremiah, MindTouch has filled it’s Community Manager/Customer Advocate Role. We are excited to have Katherine Smith http://www.linkedin.com/in/katjsmith join us from HL2. At HL2, she was Director of Marketing Strategy for Microsoft clients and created the social marketing strategy for SharePoint Social Computing.
Walter thank you!
Mark, I’ll add Katherine to the next OTM!
I really liked the “how to connect with others” part! I found some useful new resources there. Thank you, Jeremiah 🙂
cheers,
Thomas
Etienne Wenger, John Smith and I FINALLY self published “Digital Habitats: stewarding technology for community” which puts a stake in the ground about the importance of paying attention to the selection, implementation and use of social media to support a community.

Congrats on the move to Altimeter, Jeremiah! See you in 1.5 weeks at the NPR digital summit.
Just to emphasize an earlier point, it's critical to let a large number of people know that you are currently in the market for a new position. In the race between quality of contacts vs. quantity, it's good to remember that “quantity has a quality all its own.”
One more tip: most job search engines used by potential employers will show more recent resumes ahead of older ones. That means that you should be updating your resume pretty darned frequently to show up as a “recent” resume. What isn't widely disclosed is that the tiniest of changes to your resume often counts toward recency. I used to add a blank character at the end of a sentence on odd-numbered days and delete it again on even-numbered days. It seems silly, but it resulted in 40% more views- pretty impressive for 2 minutes worth of work a day!
