Forrester has launched a Wave report over community platforms.  &#8220;Diso&#8221; a technology that suggests social will be aggregated to one page will occur, and several make predictions for the upcoming year.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Usage: Surge in Chinese internet users.<\/strong><br \/>\nAlthough the Chinese internet population is greater than the entire US citizenship, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/asia-pacific\/7827765.stm\">a sharp increase in usage is reported<\/a>, primarily from mobile.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Research: Forrester &#8220;Waves&#8221; Community Platforms<\/strong><br \/>\nI lead this research, where we&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/09\/forrester-wave-community-platforms-2009\/\">segmented the leaders in the community platform space<\/a>.  I know some folks are subscribed to this digest and not my blog, so excuse me if you&#8217;ve already heard.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deals: Neighborhood American showcases wins<\/strong><br \/>\nCommunity platform Neighborhood America showcases several client wins including Kodak, City of New Orleans, and Wharton Business school in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neighborhoodamerica.com\/newsletter\/104\">their latest newsletter<\/a>, you can subscribe on the website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tech: Future of Social Dashboards, Diso<\/strong><br \/>\nMarc Canter has frequently been the guiding light for open data and suggests that the future dashboard of all things could be a technology called Diso, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.readwriteweb.com\/archives\/diso_dashboard.php\">RWW has more info<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Data: Will Facebook US members overtake MySpace<\/strong><br \/>\nTechncrunch highlights recent Comscore data and suggests that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techcrunch.com\/2009\/01\/13\/social-networking-will-facebook-overtake-myspace-in-the-us-in-2009\/\">Facebook&#8217;s US members 54mm members will overtake MySpace in 2010, 76mm, one year from now<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Future: 8 Predictions for Enterprise 2.0<\/strong><br \/>\nDion writes like an analyst and breaks down his <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.zdnet.com\/Hinchcliffe\/?p=221\">predictions for 2009 revolving around social computing within the enterprise<\/a>.  He highlights that community will be one of the priorities within the enterprise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Predictions: Hivelive suggests what&#8217;s upcoming for communities<\/strong><br \/>\nHivelive, a Colorado community platform boasts a very flexible component based system so don&#8217;t be surprised about <a href=\"http:\/\/community.hivelive.com\/hives\/eab55c7282\/summary\">their predictions for the new year<\/a>. Overall, I agree, specific use cases for community are going to be needed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Launch: Cisco puts forth a community platform &#8220;Eos&#8221;<\/strong><br \/>\nI&#8217;ve profiled this launch (and the Cisco team has responded) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/blog\/2009\/01\/07\/cisco-launches-community-platform-eos-and-aims-at-media-industry\/\">read this post for details.<\/a>  Surprisingly, other than a few press releases and blog posts, we&#8217;ve not seen much more from this highly secretive project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interview: Jive&#8217;s CMO on FastCompany TV<\/strong><br \/>\nThought leader and executive of 4 years, <a href=\"http:\/\/scobleizer.com\/2009\/01\/02\/jive-finishes-up-my-enterprise-disruption-week\/ \">Sam Lawrence the CMO of Jive Software<\/a> spends time with Scoble on Fast Company TV.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Contest: Sony community needs a name<\/strong><br \/>\nAn interesting way to drive community interaction and interest, Sony <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internetnews.com\/webcontent\/article.php\/3794686\/Sonys%2BSocial%2BNetworking%2BSite%2BNeeds%2Ba%2BName.htm&#038;cid=1287203647&#038;ei=6_hlSbqcC5vKMJ_HxbcE&#038;usg=AFQjCNEYeeD69ismieYvLhGIWsLYByYssg \">encourages it&#8217;s members to help name it&#8217;s own community<\/a>.  This community is run by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powered.com\/\">Powered<\/a>, who I had a briefing with yesterday, that specializes in content and editorial, in addition to just a platform.  (edit: This is actually an Awareness community, but Powered does run these Sony communities <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sony.com\/backstage101\">backstage101<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sony.com\/darkroom\">darkroom<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sony.com\/frontline\">and frontline<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Launch: Awareness launches Sony Blog<\/strong><br \/>\nA different division of Sony has launched a community during CES that&#8217;s run by Awareness Networks, see the <a href=\"http:\/\/electronicsblog.sel.sony.com\/\">Sony Electronics Blog<\/a>. Just goes to show that multiple vendors are often within one brand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vocab: Buzzword Leaderboard<\/strong><br \/>\nThe good folks at Royal Pingdom have helped to create this index of web buzzwords and terms, <a href=\"http:\/\/royal.pingdom.com\/2009\/01\/08\/current-trends-for-web-terminology-and-buzzwords\/\">what&#8217;s really interesting is they&#8217;ve rated which terms are peaking<\/a> &#8211;marketers responsible for messaging should take note.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a social network, or widget company, I want to know of your news, send me an email, or leave a comment below.
