Perhaps most interesting is three separate studies indicating how non-universal social networks really are, important to note as brands approach social networks and communities with a global reach &#8211;don&#8217;t overextend yourselves.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><strong>Research: Social Networks not Ubiqutious<\/strong><br \/>\neMarketer, a leading research firm s<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/Article.aspx?id=1006513&#038;src=article1_newsltr\">tates that social networks are not yet universal<\/a>, they compare to studies marking awareness, but also note that &#8220;44.3% of Internet users in the US will belong to social networks by the end of 2008&#8221; S<a href=\"http:\/\/www.synovate.com\/news\/article\/2008\/09\/global-survey-shows-58-of-people-don-t-know-what-social-networking-is-plus-over-one-third-of-social-networkers-are-losing-interest.html\">ynovate Research shows similar findings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Press: Communispace announces growth<\/strong><br \/>\nThis <a href=\"http:\/\/www.communispace.com\/news\/releases\/?PressRelease=186\">announcemen<\/a>t touts 11 new clients for the year for this &#8216;insight community vendor&#8217; which include MTV, Chili&#8217;s Grill &#038; Bar and Verizon Telecom and including <a href=\"http:\/\/www.communispace.com\/news\/releases\/?PressRelease=187\">a deal with InterContintental Hotels<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communications: MySpace useful during hurricane<\/strong><br \/>\nLike many social media tools, social networks are a key communication tool before, during, and after disasters for citizens and local and national recovery groups, <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/story\/afp\/20080905\/tc_afp\/usitstormweatherinternet\">MySpace has proven effective in this last hurricane<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deployment: US Gov has Facebook for Spies<\/strong><br \/>\nSpeaking of government, the CIA and other government agencies have their own social network for spies, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2008\/TECH\/ptech\/09\/05\/facebook.spies\/index.html\">called A-Space<\/a>, I wonder if they have scrabulous!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Competitor: Groupsites takes aim at Ning<\/strong><br \/>\nAnother easy to get started white label social network has appeared <a href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2008\/09\/08\/collective-x-re-launches-groupsites-facebook-to-nings-myspace\/\">called Groupsites<\/a>, which is in the same market as Ning, the key differentiator? productivity is at the core of the use case.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications: Context launches Applications<\/strong><br \/>\nIn it&#8217;s quest for creating applications for Facebook, Context creates facebook page for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/ABSOLUT-TOP-BARTENDER\/17749437762\">Top Bartende<\/a>r (Absolut) <a href=\"http:\/\/apps.facebook.com\/toasting\/\">Today I&#8217;m toasting<\/a> (Miller) and <a href=\"http:\/\/apps.facebook.com\/gotpies\/\">Got Pies<\/a> (Microsoft&#8217;s IE), all interactive marketing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deal: Pluck wins Sun Times<\/strong><br \/>\nMedia site The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suntimes.com\">Sun-Times News Group<\/a> uses <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pluck.com\">Pluck<\/a> to power social elements to their site. Pluck Social Media tools bring reader forums, blogs and feed tools to the media site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deal: eBay selects ONESite<\/strong><br \/>\nWhite label social network wins ebay sustainability community for <a href=\"http:\/\/worldofgood.ebay.com\/home\">World of Good<\/a> site.  I know other competitors are within eBay, which is not uncommon for large enterprises to be disparate with vendor selection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Acquisition: iSkoot gobbles Social IM<\/strong><br \/>\nConsolidation in the mobile and voip space as <a href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2008\/09\/05\/iskoot-acquires-social-networking-client-socialim\/\">iSkoot acquires social networking client Social.IM<\/a>. What&#8217;s in store?  Dean Takahashi says: &#8220;Social.IM&#8217;s platform will work well with iSkoot&#8217;s own upcoming mobile web push services&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Analsyis: Adoption rates of Faecbooks Redesign<\/strong><br \/>\nCompete has an interesting analysis <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.compete.com\/2008\/09\/03\/facebook-new-old-version\/\">marking the adoption rates of Facebook users to the slow to roll out redesign<\/a>, as well as how many users reverted. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Partnership: NBC and LinkedIn clinch deal<\/strong><br \/>\nA combination of content and social feature deal allows <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.linkedin.com\/blog\/2008\/09\/cnbc-gets-linke.html\">NBC viewers and LinkedIn members to share information<\/a>, and connect with each other between these two sites. good marriage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Services: Lithium gets serious about services<\/strong><br \/>\nWith this announcement of enterprise class services and support teams, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lithium.com\/events\/press\/41\/\">they hire a VP of client services to lead the teams forward<\/a>. Services, Strategy and Support account for 80% of the enterprise buy in my opinion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impacts: Reactions of bad behaviors<\/strong><br \/>\nHow <a href=\"http:\/\/lifehacker.com\/5045105\/how-to-not-get-banned-from-commenting\">not to get banned from commenting<\/a> link via colleague <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/nate_elliott\">Nate Elliott<\/a>, and are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mathewingram.com\/work\/2008\/09\/04\/comments-more-like-slander-than-libel\/\">comments more like Slander than Libel<\/a>? <\/p>\n<p><strong>Index: List of Community Platforms<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.zdnet.com\/Hinchcliffe\/?p=195\">Dion has a great list of community platforms<\/a>, I&#8217;m also resesarching this market and will put forth a list of enterprise class community platforms for interactive marketers at Fortune 5000 companies in late Oct. It&#8217;s hard to segment as the actual list is so many vendors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Movement: Protests gain new fuel through Facebook<\/strong><br \/>\nMovements often start small, and with social networks, the snowball effect can quickly add many new members, shows this article about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/technology\/story\/2008\/09\/05\/f-online-protest.html\">protesters who organize online &#8211;often in Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>PR professionals that have clients in this space, should subscribe to this blog, and ensure their clients are put on this digest by sending me an email, or better yet, leave a comment.
