{"id":2626,"date":"2008-07-14T15:34:14","date_gmt":"2008-07-14T22:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/14\/video-how-not-to-interview-the-tech-audience\/"},"modified":"2008-07-14T16:35:10","modified_gmt":"2008-07-14T23:35:10","slug":"video-how-not-to-interview-the-tech-audience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web-strategist.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/14\/video-how-not-to-interview-the-tech-audience\/","title":{"rendered":"Video: How Not to Interview the Tech Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I never liked getting picked on for being a nerd in Junior High through High School, and nor do I like now, fortunatly, I get paid to be a geek now. \ud83d\ude09 <\/p>\n<p>I do enjoy watching a reporter named KTLA&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/5gt3zb\">Eric Spillman<\/a>, getting called a &#8220;Jackass&#8221; and his journalistic credibility being questioned after taunting technology lovers on the street by asking them &#8220;If they&#8217;ve ever seen a naked woman&#8221;.  Although Eric received an Associated Press Television-Radio Award for &#8220;Best Live News Coverage, he clearly has failed the following interview: <\/p>\n<p><center><object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/luYvuRoSzTs&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/luYvuRoSzTs&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><\/center><\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s interesting to see is that this video (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=luYvuRoSzTs&#038;eurl=http:\/\/www.crunchgear.com\/2008\/07\/13\/morons-vs-the-intelligent-reporter-covers-the-iphone-line\/\">now on Digg<\/a>) above is now climbing the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Eric+Spillman\">Eric Spillman&#8217;s name<\/a> as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/search\/spillman?authority=a4&#038;language=en\">many blogs citing his name<\/a>.  There&#8217;s actually an upside for Eric on this he could use this to gain even more attention from the internet if he plays his cards right, but there is a lesson to be learned. While picking on nerds will always pander to one&#8217;s short term ego, it doesn&#8217;t pay off in the long term.<\/p>\n<p>Update: <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ktla.com\/news_custom_eric\/2008\/07\/i-guess-i-deser.html\">Eric has issued an apology, &#8220;Mea Culpa, YouTube Viewers&#8221; does it seem authentic<\/a>?  He should be apologizing not just to YouTube viewers but the technology audience in general, betta watch out or Steve Jobs will put the hurt on ya!
