There&#8217;s no mercy for the taxi industry from former customers. Here are<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/12\/dont-protest-the-collaborative-economy-lead-it\/\">my recommendations to the taxi industry<\/a><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>to lead this movement  not fight it)<\/em><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The Collaborative Economy is a crowd commerce revolution.<\/strong><br \/>\nPeople are empowered to get what they need from each other, using now common, mobile technologies\u00a0in their pockets. Several quarters ago, people told me it was a fad; it wouldn&#8217;t last; peer-to-peer commerce can&#8217;t happen at scale.\u00a0Like social media was disbelieved\u00a0in 2005 (I vividly remember\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/forbes\/2005\/1114\/128.html\">the attack of the blogs<\/a>), we&#8217;re seeing disruptions, but these impact real revenues, not just communications.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<a title=\"Screen Shot 2014-09-26 at 1.08.31 PM by Jeremiah Owyang, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jeremiah_owyang\/15176188947\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3869\/15176188947_e670a13afc_n.jpg\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2014-09-26 at 1.08.31 PM\" width=\"320\" height=\"239\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAbove Graphic: A TNC (Transportation Network Company) is the designation for Sidecar, Uber, and Lyft. From SF Municipal Transportation Agency, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/sanfrancisco\/report-says-sf-taxis-suffering-greatly\/Content?oid=2899618\">SF Examiner<\/a>.<\/center><strong>Real revenues are being lost by incumbents.<\/strong><br \/>\nYesterday, at newsstands\u00a0across the\u00a0San Francisco Bay area and online (my pic, above), it was reported that taxis are suffering a 65% loss in rides   <em>two thirds of their revenue lost in less than 3 years<\/em>. It&#8217;s not limited to San Francisco. <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2014\/09\/23\/d-c-cabs-companies-blame-ride-sharing-for-loss-of-revenue\/\">DC taxis are down 22%<\/a>\u00a0and a once dominant<a href=\"http:\/\/sfist.com\/2014\/06\/02\/desoto_cab_head_says_sf_cab_industr.php\">\u00a0taxi cab company says they have less than 18 months of life left<\/a>. A recent\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/bostonglobe\/ideas\/brainiac\/2014\/01\/airbnb_takes_a.html\">study by Boston University shows that, for every 1% growth of Airbnb, hotels are impacted half a percent<\/a>\u00a0  and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/annual\/\">Airbnb is growing at an incredible rate<\/a>. How fast?\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/digits\/2014\/06\/06\/uber-ceo-travis-kalanick-were-doubling-revenue-every-six-months\/\">Uber&#8217;s revenues are doubling every six months<\/a>, and Lending Club, where people lend to each other instead of going to banks,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lendingclub.com\/info\/statistics.action\">is having hockey-stick like growth, having brokered $5 billion worth of loans in five years<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The startups are heavily funded in every industry.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nI<a href=\"http:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/blog\/2014\/09\/20\/even-more-money-funnels-into-the-collaborative-economy-part-3\/\">nvestors are funneling incredible amounts of money into this market<\/a>: $2.7 billion in just under the last\u00a0ten months (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/a\/crowdcompanies.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1uaU3VlqbigjYOpAXDDKOlsfk5APVkD-H0YAVlRra9WE\/edit#gid=415426608\">see spreadsheet<\/a>), with Google being a leading investor in the market. It&#8217;s not limited to cars and homes and dollars. The Collaborative Economy is impacting many industries, including food, business services, retail, business space, and more. You can see the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/blog\/2014\/05\/05\/framework-collaborative-economy-honeycomb-osfest14\/\">Honeycomb Framework<\/a>\u00a0to see how goods, food, services, transportation, space, and money are each impacted. The next version of the honeycomb infographic will include health, utilities, education, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Progressive corporations augment\u00a0their business model\u00a0to partner<\/strong>\u00a0<em><strong>with<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<strong>the crowd.<\/strong><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s important that you prepare your company for these changes now. People are empowered to get what they need from each other. The crowd is becoming like a company. The good news is that companies can use these same technologies and strategies.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.sfgate.com\/techchron\/2014\/06\/25\/lyft-plus-expands-sf-rollout-of-ford-explorer-fleet\/\">Ford\u00a0has provided special cars to Lyft drivers<\/a>, Hyatt has partnered with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.web-strategist.com\/blog\/2014\/08\/20\/the-collaborative-economy-apis-mean-changes-to-commerce\/\">Uber for instant bookings using an API<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/media.wholefoodsmarket.com\/news\/whole-foods-market-and-instacart-partner-to-offer-one-hour-delivery-across\">Whole Foods has partnered with Instacart for crowd-based, home deliveries<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2014\/09\/08\/verizon-plans-to-create-a-sharing-platform-for-virtually-anything-not-just-cars\/\">Verizon has enabled sharing of many objects<\/a>\u00a0using their vast network.
